Secretary of State and Standard Life v Topland Group Plc, concerning First Avenue House, Holborn London WC1 in February 2012

The dispute centred on the sale by Standard Life of First Avenue House, a substantial 115,000 sq ft office building let to Secretary of State and bought by the Defendant Topland in September 2003. We were appointed by the Defendant and asked to opine upon the Market Value of the property at the transaction date.

Laffly LLP v Irwin Mitchell and Associated British Ports Holdings Limited, concerning 150 Holborn, London EC1 in February 2013

The dispute centred on the diminution in value of the office accommodation within a substantial mixed retail and office building. We were appointed by the Claimant, a company controlled by John Hunt, the founder of Foxtons, to opine on the Market Value as at the lease expiry dates in March 2009.

Gemini (Eclipse 2006-3) PLC v CBRE Limited and Warwick Street (KS) LLP

The dispute centred on the valuation of 37 properties in August 2006 and was the largest valuation negligence claim (£180 million) ever brought in the UK.  The properties were originally valued for Barclays which then securitised the debt and issued bonds through Gemini.  The portfolio was assembled by Glen Maud’s PropInvest and comprised typically secondary properties located across Great Britain, across the main asset classes: shopping centres, High Street retail, retail warehousing, offices, industrial and leisure properties.  Our role on behalf of the Claimant encompassed a six year project involving retrospective valuations, the preparation of full expert reports, expert meetings and mediation following which the case was settled in a satisfactory fashion.
