Allsop City's marketing team continues to offer robust and cost-effective solutions for clients, positioning itself as a leader in the commercial property space. As part of our commitment to innovation, we’re always looking for fresh perspectives to help reimagine how we present the built environment.
Recently, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Ravensbourne University London and their Digital Photography course, hosting 10 students as part of their Work Based Learning Unit — a programme designed to give students real-world industry experience and contribute to their academic development.
Ravensbourne is a champion of creativity and collaboration. Their Digital Photography programme is impressively wide-ranging, covering everything from advertising and editorial to fashion, motion, music, and documentary photography. At its heart, the course is about equipping students with the skills, tools, and confidence to build careers in digital media and design. Partnerships with industry are a key part of this journey, offering learners valuable opportunities to build their portfolios while working on live briefs.
Working closely with Geraint Cunnick, Course Leader for Digital Photography, we designed a meaningful learning experience within a niche market. With support from British Land, we welcomed the students to 16 Blossom Yard — one of Norton Folgate’s most exciting Cat B office developments — for 1.5 days of on-site conducting photography and videography, and 2.5 days for post-production work.
Our creative brief encouraged students to look beyond traditional documentation. We asked them to consider the building’s history, its visual identity, and how to convey the atmosphere of the space through their lens. We welcomed unique approaches: oblique angles, layered compositions, close-up details, and creative storytelling. The goal was to produce high-quality content suitable for both print and digital use, in both portrait and landscape formats — while always communicating a true sense of place.
The results were impressive. The students approached the project with professionalism, creativity, and a genuine curiosity for the space. Their work not only supports the marketing of 16 Blossom Yard but also captured the building’s blend of heritage and modernity — a reflection of Norton Folgate itself. Most importantly, the experience gave students the chance to respond to a real brief, navigate client expectations, and create portfolio-ready work.
This marks the beginning of a longer-term relationship as Allsop City is proud to support Ravensbourne’s Work Based Learning Unit going forward, with plans to offer paid opportunities and further work experience to selected students each year. We are also enriching our own approach to how we communicate and to keep challenging ourselves to market commercial spaces in new and imaginative ways.
